    Film screening
    L’imperatore di Roma

Flaneur Magazine is pleased to invite you to its inaugural screening as the magazine is starting to expand into the film realm. Hannah Sioda, in charge of the new Flaneur event series, has selected and subtitled the film L’Imperatore di Roma (1987, Nico D’Alessandria). The movie tells the story of a drug addict named Gerry who wanders the endless streets of Rome. He strolls through the ruins of the Colosseum, gazes upon stones, imagines situations, and talks with complete strangers and acquaintances, whom he randomly meets. Through his never ending dérive, the film depicts the existence of a man that has repudiated all social conventions in order to live like one of the countless cats that prowl amongst the streets of the old capital.

Considered a masterpiece of Italian art-house cinema, L’Imperatore di Roma has never been translated or subtitled. Due to its rare distribution the film subsequently dwindled into obscurity, thus slowly cascading into cinematic oblivion.

The screening is part of the exhibition BERLINROMA ROMABERLIN – Reverse Inequality, on view through 31 October at Gallery Patrick Ebensperger. Ci vediamo hopefully on October 27th at 7.30 pm

Our little Flaneur marathon has come to an end after four launch events in both Athens and Berlin! Really, we couldn’t be more thankful for the outcome of our Athens adventure: we were welcomed with open arms and doors the moment we arrived and received nothing but love and support. We hope this can be felt when flipping through the colourful explosion that is the Fokionos Negri Issue. The love and support continued throughout all our launch endeavours from our friends, our readers, Foivos bar in Athens, Coffeehouse Bitte in Berlin and our contributors. And a special thanks to our advertisers and institutions which helped us bring this issue to life! Thank you, thank you, thank you – we hope you love the issue as much as we do! Have a look at our launch pictures via our FB Page.

Wowza! Becoming the best selling magazine at our favorite Montreal bookstore, Drawn&Quarterly (located on our beloved Rue Bernard street from Issue Nr.03) is truly remarkable for us and sharing the rank alongside the New Yorker… what more could we even ask for.
